2021 Grimes County Fair

Our neighboring county to the west, Grimes County, hosts its annual fair each year in June. The 2021 Grimes County Fair celebrates its 69th year of supporting agriculture and youth. All week long youth from the county have been competing with their market animals, creative arts, baking, and ag mechanics projects. The end of the fair on June 12th culminates in Special Rodeo Attractions, Bull Buck Out, and Dance.

Special Rodeo Attractions

If you want to see some of the cutest little cowgirls and cowboys, then you will want to be at the Grimes County Fairgrounds at 6:30 p.m. Children aged 2-4 years old will compete on a stick horse. They will whoop and ride through the arena trying to stay on the fiercest stick horses you have ever seen. Some will even get bucked off! It truly is entertaining.

My personal favorite is Mutton Bustin’. This contest is for 5-8 year olds. They will ride a sheep for as long as they can. Some will slide off the side at the get go. Others will make it all the way across the arena. It is fun to cheer the kids on as they compete.

Bull Buck Out

The Bull Buck Out follows the Special Rodeo Attractions and should begin around 7:30 p.m. It showcases one of the most popular rodeo events, Bull Riding. Cowboys try to stay at least 8 seconds on a big, bucking bull. You will see countless cowboys try to earn money. Additionally, the rodeo clowns compete in Bull Fighting. If you have ever watched a rodeo, you know that the rodeo clowns play an integral role in any rodeo distracting the animals from harming their targets. They save many a person from getting injured. As they “fight” the bull, you will hold your breath as you watch them hone their skills at getting close enough to the bulls without getting hurt. They are truly fearless competitors.

Dance

The dance kicks off at 9:00 p.m. and goes until 1:00 a.m. Jason James will entertain the crowds as people dance and socialize throughout the night. He is a native of Texas City and sings good ol’ country music. To watch his latest music video, click here.

If you are looking for a fun time close to home, then definitely consider attending the Special Rodeo Attractions, Bull Buck Out, and/or Dance at the 2021 Grimes County Fair. An evening of fun activities for the admission cost of $10 per person. Children 5 and under are free.
