Boat Accident

Lake Conroe is a beautiful body of water. It can also be the site of tragedy. Last week on August 14th, a party boat capsized on the water. Sadly one person died and many more were injured. Let’s look into this boat accident on Lake Conroe.

Which boat?

The Lake Conroe Queen. It is a 60 passenger vessel. The Queen is a double-deck paddleboat reproduced to look like it was built in the 1860’s. It was actually built in 1986. The Queen has provided countless hours of fun on Lake Conroe for the past year. They offer Sunset Boat Tours, Private Party Rentals, and Sunday Funday Tours. Unfortunately the boat remains capsized in the lake as of now.

What happened?

During one of their routine outings on the lake, a storm came up quickly on Saturday. From all accounts the water grew really choppy about halfway through the planned excursion. Some witnesses say that the waves were six feet tall. Then the unthinkable occurred. The boat capsized with 53 passengers aboard.

Where?

The boat had made it as far as Regency Point before the thunderstorm hit. Fortunately local residents watched the Queen go over and immediately began helping passengers to safety.

Why?

Whenever tragedy strikes, one of the first questions asked is “Why?” There is an on-going investigation in the causes of this accident. However, there are no clear answers at the moment. Unfortunately, one gentleman from the Lake Conroe area is dead. A couple of passengers were taken to local hospitals. Most made it unscathed.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all involved in this tragic accident. From the captain of the boat to all the passengers and especially to the family of the deceased, we pray that God would comfort you during this time. We also pray for wisdom of the investigators. Hopefully they will find out exactly what happened, which might protect others from future incidents.

Life is unpredictable. Life on a body of water is even more unpredictable. Obviously even the weather is unpredictable. Nobody expected this to happen on Lake Conroe, which is why it is called an accident. Respect the lake.
