Today is National Donut Day! It is a day that has its roots all the way back in World War I. The Salvation Army established National Donut Day in 1938 to honor the “Donut Lassies,” European women who served American soldiers donuts. When the soldiers returned home, they longed to eat the sweet, fried delicacy that we now all know as the donut. Not that you need an excuse to treat yourself to a donut, but today would be the perfect day to support our local donut shops in the Lake Conroe area.

Then the larger bakery is across from the lake off of HWY 105. Both locations sell a variety of fresh, hand-crafted donuts. Although Shipley Donuts is a large chain, Houston is home to the original one. They open at 5 am.

Enjoy donuts from any of these local donut shops in the Lake Conroe area. While you eat the sweet treats, think of how good these would be for hungry soldiers far from home. Happy National Donut Day! 🍩
