Even though the temperatures have not fallen much, they will eventually. Being outdoors in the Texas autumn is enjoyable. Beyond Lake Conroe and the area’s local golf courses, today we are going to suggest four local fall outdoor outings for you to explore.
P-6 Farms
Are you looking for a family-friendly outing for kids of all ages? P-6 Farms is the perfect place to spend the day. From the corn maze to pig races and much more, there are so many things for you to do. They are open on Saturdays and Sundays through November 3rd. Purchase your tickets online before arriving as they have gone cashless.
Texas Renaissance Festival
While arguably not completely family-friendly, the Texas Renaissance Festival is a fall staple in this area. In fact, this is their 50th year! Be transported to medieval times among the pine trees of Grimes County. Enjoy festival fare like the infamous turkey legs and kettle corn while watching jousting tournaments and other shows. Shop, dress up, and get your steps in at the Ren Fest. It runs every weekend through December 1st, plus the Friday after Thanksgiving Day. You can purchase tickets at the gate or online.
Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park
One of the best times of the year to visit the Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park is during the fall. This is a great place for families or couples who enjoy history. If you are new to Texas, this is where the General Convention was held, and delegates wrote and signed the Texas Declaration of Independence in 1836.
There are historical sites, a great museum, and a nice park to eat a picnic or play along the Brazos River. You can also check into neighboring Barrington Farms to experience life in the 1800s. For example, this weekend they are hosting a “Cooking in the Kitchen & Quarter” event.
Wildflyer Meadery
This meadery sits on the oldest, continuously operating bee farm in Texas. It is a great place to sample mead, visit the bee store, enjoy live music, and more. They often have special events so be sure to check out their website. While I highly recommend visiting the meadery, they now have a location in downtown Navasota.
Try one or all four local fall outdoor outings this year. In addition to these, there are several wineries, breweries, and other festivals to experience. The Lake Conroe and surrounding areas are full of things to do for families and people of all ages. Have fun exploring this fall!
