In Highlighting the City of Montgomery, we looked at many facets of life in Montgomery, which makes it a great place to live. We explored it history and census facts like population. We also looked at the schools within the Montgomery Independent School District. In addition we learned who represented the residents at the city council, state, and federal levels. Of course, we also listed the major events that the city of Montgomery hosts. Today we are going to look at more fun aspects of life in Montgomery like local restaurants and family-fun destinations.
Restaurants
First we are going to look at only the restaurants that lie within the city limits of Montgomery, Texas. As you will see there are many great eateries for residents and visitors alike.
Pizza Shack
According to Tripadvisor, the number one rated restaurant is Pizza Shack. In my opinion, they should really change the name because it is far from a shack. Whatever images that word conjures up in your mind, think the opposite and you might be closer to reality. Their pizza was featured on the television show, Good Taste with Tanji. As good as their pizza is, their menu is not limited to it. From fried catfish, countless pasta dishes, and salads, you can order a variety of food. And don’t forget the dessert.
Cozy Grape Wine Bar & Bistro
The next highest rated restaurant within the city limits is the Cozy Grape. It is a fine dining establishment with superb waitstaff. They serve anything from steaks to pasta. Each night they have dinner specials. You can check them out on their website. In fact, here is their menu. In addition, the Cozy Grape has a great wine list.
Phil’s Roadhouse and Grill
Phil’s Roadhouse is a great place for down-home cooking and casual dining. It is a great place to get chicken fried steak, a variety of juicy burgers, ribs, and steaks. They also have a long list of sides available. And of course, you cannot forget to order desserts like banana pudding or cobbler.
The Eatery at Hodge Podge Lodge
We highlighted this fine dining establishment with an article, “Hodge Podge Lodge in Historic Downtown Montgomery.”It specializes in gourmet meals like Cedar Plank Salmon or Gulf Lump Crab Cakes. Reservations are highly recommended. You can check out their restaurant and menu here.
Ransom’s Steakhouse
This family-friendly restaurant proclaims itself, Defenders of Great Texas Food. Ransom’s Steakhouse and Saloon specializes in steaks, chicken-fried steaks, and glazed salmon. They source as much food locally as possible, including their beef. It is raised here in Montgomery as well. In addition, the restaurant has a full bar, a sand pit to entertain children, and outdoor seating. On the weekends, they also have live music.
Old Montgomery Steakhouse
If you want to rub elbows with locals, then you must go for breakfast. Old Montgomery Steakhouse has a full breakfast menu. They also offer lunch specials and of course as their name suggests a full array of steaks at dinner.
Yo Mama’s Pit Bar-B-Que
This small restaurant that faces the main highway serves up exactly what you would expect from a pit bbq place. From bbq sandwiches, combo plates, and bbq baked potatoes, you can get your fill of Texas Bar-B-Que. Just like their motto, you “need no teeth to eat my beef.” Whether you order chicken, sausage, ribs, or brisket, the meat should be tender and finger-lickin’ good.
Burger Fresh
We highlighted this burger joint two years ago in, “Burger Fresh: Arguably the Best Burger in Texas.” Burger Fresh‘s 1/2 pound hamburger was featured in Texas Monthly. It is an award-winning burger. You will have to try any of their burgers and see what sets them apart.
I have quite possibly unintentionally left out a restaurant. Again remember that I was focusing on those within the city limits of Montgomery. Beyond the city limits, there are numerous more, especially along Lake Conroe. I have also not included chain restaurants. Montgomery has a McDonalds, Burger King, Panda Express, Chick-Fil-A, Chipotle, Taco Bell, and Chronic Tacos. As the city grows, it will continue to attract more and more restaurants.
Family-Fun Activities
Longview Greens Miniature Golf
We highlighted this local business in “Longview Greens: A Big Success Story in Miniature Golf.” In short, it is an independent putt-putt golf business. Its course design is inspired by Texas. Not only is it a fun outing, but it is a great place to host a birthday party or similar event. After you play a round, you can treat yourself to ice cream and/or shaved ice. Check out their website for more information, including hours and pricing.
P-6 Farms
We have highlighted this family attraction several times because they have different events throughout the year from a Corn Maze to Farm Camps to Easter Activities. P-6 Farms began as a fall destination with their famous corn maze, pumpkin patch, and hay rides. You can read about it here.
The city of Montgomery has many local businesses that offer a variety of food and fun to the community. From fine dining to putt-putt golf, you don’t have to travel far to enjoy yourself. Hopefully you are getting a good idea of what makes Montgomery a great place to live.
