Farmers Markets

Within the Lake Conroe area, there are several opportunities to shop at different Farmers’ Markets. Take time this year to visit one and buy handmade or homegrown items. From fresh vegetables, cheeses, and jams to home decor and soaps, local vendors offer a variety of things. Not only will you be getting fresh food and unique items, but you will also be supporting local farmers and artists.

Lone Star 1st Saturday

Starting in the heart of Montgomery, Lone Star 1st Saturday, fills the space at 14420 Liberty Street. As its name indicates, it opens for business every first Saturday of the month. Therefore, the earliest you can shop at this market is February 4th. You can shop from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. This market has been a monthly source of local products since 2005.

Montgomery Farmers Market

The newest local market in Montgomery is the Montgomery Farmers Market. It convenes at 19785 Highway 105, which is also known as the Lake Conroe KOA parking lot. It is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday of the month. This market began in 2021 in the Ransom’s Steakhouse parking lot and has since moved to the KOA. They have a wide variety of food from grass-fed beef, homemade bread, raw milk, etc. You can even pre-order on their website.

Main Street Market

The Main Street Market is in downtown Conroe at the parking lot at Main and Metcalf. It is behind the Heritage Plaza. Vendors gather every Saturday rain or shine to sell their products from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Expect to find eggs, honey, baked goods, and condiments along with many other items and products.

As I researched for this article, I noticed that many Farmers’ Markets have shut down for various reasons. It is a good indicator that our local community either does not support our local farmers and artisans or that they don’t know about these opportunities to buy directly from them. I think it is the latter so I am happy to be putting out this information. Let’s make 2023 the best year for these three markets. Shop local. Shop small. Support these Farmers’ Markets.
