Southern Empress Cruises

Are you looking for a unique way to enjoy Lake Conroe?  Dinner, dancing, and a few drinks always create a delightful evening.  Combine those with a cruise on the Southern Empress, a paddle wheeler, and you have a magical, romantic evening with your significant other.  Today let’s explore the history of the Southern Empress and the kinds of cruises it offers.

History:

Paddle wheelers are water vessels that are propelled by paddles.  Technically steam drives the paddles into motion, which propels the ship forward.  They are typically flat-bottomed boats perfect for navigating rivers.  The first paddle wheeler in North America appeared in 1787 on the Delaware River.  But between the years 1830-1870, the paddle wheelers sailed up and down the Mississippi River.

The Southern Empress was built in Mississippi in 1983.  It is 131 feet long.  According to their site in order to move it to Lake Conroe, workers cut the Southern Empress into pieces.  It took 27 eighteen-wheelers to move the paddle wheeler to its home now.  After being reassembled, the Southern Empress has been setting sail offering dinner cruises and special events for years.

Cruises:

The most popular cruise is the Lake Conroe Dinner Cruise.  For three hours, you can enjoy the ship sailing on the lake as well as dinner and dancing.  Watch the sunset and see the stars from the top deck.  For a romantic evening that you will not soon forget, consider this particular cruise.  They also offer lunch cruises, cocktail cruises, private events, corporate events, and weddings.

Southern Empress Cruises offers a fun outing regardless of the cruise you choose.  It allows you to get out on the water as you step back into history.  A combination of nostalgia and modern convenience join for a unique experience on Lake Conroe.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, they have made necessary changes to ensure the safety of employees and guests, but cruises are still running.  Come support this local business.  They do ask that you call to book at 936-588-3000 because of Coronavirus.  What an awesome way to getaway for a few hours and enjoy Lake Conroe!
