Mission and Purpose of the Montgomery County Fair

It’s that time of year again—the 2025 Montgomery County Fair has begun! Local youth have worked hard all school year on their projects from livestock to art. They can earn not only top places and awards but also scholarships and money. Today we will explore the mission and purpose of the Montgomery County Fair.

Mission of the Fair

The mission of the Montgomery County Fair Association is “to Champion the Youth of Montgomery County!” The fairgrounds host the annual fair and related events to showcase the hard work of the local youth. They expect almost 3,000 students to exhibit their projects this year. Kids in 4-H and/or FFA participate in a variety of events. Most events involve livestock. From steers to market rabbits and everything in between, children raise the animals and learn how to show them. This process not only teaches kids agriculture but also showmanship, responsibility, and many other life lessons.

The fair is not all about animal projects. It offers many non-livestock divisions in which local youth can participate. From baked goods to photography, youth can perfect their craft and hone their skills in a variety of projects. These non-livestock contests also provide children with opportunities to auction off their goods.

The Montgomery County Fair Association seeks to support local youth as a Texas tradition. They not only provide the venue and the opportunities to compete, but the fair association enables them to earn money in the process.

Purpose of the Fair

If the mission is “to champion the youth of Montgomery County,” then the purpose is to provide opportunities for the community to invest in the future of the county. As Whitney Houston sang, “The Children are the future,” and Montgomery County residents agree. Local youth are the future and you can invest in them in the present.

Since 1993, the fair association has awarded over $2 million in scholarship money. These scholarships are a direct investment in a child’s education. The other way that the fair offers an investment opportunity is in its auctions. They host a livestock auction as well as a non-livestock auction. The community has rallied around the youth of this county by participating in the auctions for years. According to the fair’s website, $20,000,000 has been raised throughout the past three decades. Unbelievable support!

The mission and purpose of the Montgomery County Fair is clear. It is all about the county’s youth. Make sure that you check out their website for additional information on the schedule of events, how to get involved, and more. They expect 80,000 visitors this year between April 3 and April 13. Come out and see what it is all about!
