The local Great Texas Birding Classic will be held Saturday, April 20th off of Lake Robbins Drive in The Woodlands. It begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 10:30 a.m. The local event is hosted by the Parks and Recreation Department of The Woodlands Township. The Texas Ornithological Society and Toyota are co-sponsors of the statewide event.

What is it?

The Great Texas Birding Classic is the state’s largest birdwatching event. It stretches from April 15th through May 15th. The tournament seeks to take advantage of the spring migration patterns of birds. This way more birders can see and record more species of birds. Hobbyists and backyard birdwatchers to experts in ornithology are welcome to participate. The registration fees are used to benefit the Texas bird conservation.

How to Participate

You must register to participate in the local birdwatching event in The Woodlands. However, there is no cost. It is a free event.

Each team will identify the birds they see during this specific time period. Then they will record the number of those birds they see. You can even record the birds you hear, too. Therefore, you will want to bring your lawn chair and a pair of binoculars.

The Great Texas Birding Classic in The Woodlands would be a great event for nature-enthusiasts. Bring your family and friends and try to see or hear the most birds in four hours. You never know the inner ornithologist that this event might awaken.
