Community Sports Ministry

Do you love to play sports? Do you enjoy meeting other athletes in the community? Well, did you know that Lakeside Bible Church has a sports ministry? Today, learn about this community sports ministry at a local church.

Lakeside Bible Church

Lakeside Bible Church sits at 18940 Freeport Drive in Montgomery, Texas. Years ago, the church began a ministry called Contact Sports. Their stated vision for the ministry reads, “…to help equip and enable the members at Lakeside to make contact with people in the community for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” Therefore, this is how the ministry got its name; although, many sports are contact sports.

First, Contact Sports started with soccer, which used to meet at the fields in April Sound. Since then, the ministry has really grown. Not only have they increased the number of sports offered but they even built a soccer field at their location. Each sport has a different schedule so you could potentially play more than one at Lakeside.

Soccer

We are going to begin with the original sport in this community sports ministry. Soccer is now played at Lakeside Bible Church on their field on Tuesday evenings. The spring season begins in February and runs through mid-May. Since the field is equipped with lights, they now offer more age groups. From 6-7 p.m., third through fifth graders can practice their skills with co-ed scrimmages. From 7-8 p.m., sixth though eighth grade boys and girls have an opportunity to play. Then high schoolers to adults, get to play from 8-9:30 p.m. Keep your eye on the church website to find an exact start date for 2024.

Basketball

The next sport added to Contact Sports was basketball. Lakeside opens its gym to the community on Thursday nights starting at 6:30 p.m. The season began this month and runs through May. Depending on attendance, they play half-court or full-court games to get as much game time as possible. Basketball is mainly for high school and older.

Pickleball

The newest sport added to the lineup is Pickleball. It is played in the indoor gym on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. They set up three courts for teams to play each other. Pickleball is for both young and old. Its season also began this month and runs into May.

Contact Sports is a community sports ministry at Lakeside Bible Church. Anyone is welcome to come and watch the games or participate at the appropriate age level. All sports are completely free. No admission. No hidden fees. However, you need to have fun in mind as these are all friendly games. This is just another reason why it is great to live in the Lake Conroe community!
