Montgomery County Fair

The countdown begins to the Montgomery County Fair! In just 7 days, it commences officially on April 11th and then runs with a variety of events until April 21st. In today’s blog, we explore the purpose of the county fair, the events, and how you can participate.

The Purpose of the County Fair

The main purpose of the Montgomery County Fair is to support the youth of the county. The fair enables them to showcase their livestock projects, fine arts, cooking, canning, photography, and so much more. In addition since 1993, it has raised $2 million for scholarships for high school seniors. In 2021 alone, $1.3 million was raised for the youth of this county. Therefore, it is a major venue to showcase youth 4-H and FFA projects as well as raise money for educational programs and scholarships.

The Events

The very first event is before the official opening of the fair. It is a team roping this Saturday, April 6th. Then on Wednesday, April 10th, they are hosting a Dos Chicas Barrel Race for local women of all ages. The top 5 barrel racers will compete at the CPRA Rodeo on the 12th.

Then on April 11th, the Montgomery County Fair kicks off officially. For ten days, there are a variety of events, livestock shows, contests, rodeos, concerts, dances, auctions, and more. For a complete calendar of events, click here.

How You Can Participate

The easiest way to participate is to attend the fair. Check out the calendar of events and pick a show that interests you. Have fun at the carnival, enjoy different food from vendors, and/or attend an auction. If you have children between the ages of 8-18, see if they have an interest in participating by showing an animal, competing at the youth rodeo, singing the National Anthem, and more. There are many ways for them to get involved in this great family-friendly, community event. However, to attend, you will need tickets.

Another way to get involved is to serve on a committee. Click here for more information. Additionally, you can attend other events beyond livestock. For example, there is a classic car show, a barbecue cook-off, and a golf tournament. There really is something for everyone.

Come out to support our local youth at the Montgomery County Fair April 11th-21st. Experience a great fair with less hassle, expense, and crowds compared to the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo. Then look forward to it every year!
